Coimbra Communication Sciences Congress

On June 10, 2025, Coimbra will host the first edition of the Communication Sciences Congress, an event organised by the Communication Department of the Coimbra School of Education (ESEC), with the support of the Centre for Organisational and Social Studies of the Polytechnic of Porto (CEOS.PP). This congress is a new opportunity to exchange knowledge and reflect on the impact of new technologies in the communication sector.

With the theme ‘Communication Challenges in the Age of Artificial Intelligence’, the event will address fundamental questions about the opportunities and challenges that Artificial Intelligence (AI) brings to the communications field. Throughout the congress, relevant topics will be discussed, such as organisational communication in the digital age, journalism and technological innovation, addressing issues such as message personalisation, process automation, access to large volumes of data, as well as ethical issues, disinformation in the digital environment and the replacement of humanisation in AI-mediated communication. Other important points include how professionals in the field can adapt to a scenario increasingly shaped by algorithms, promoting transparency, inclusion and a more humanised approach.

The event also aims to foster dialogue between academia and the job market, promoting reflection on how digital evolution can impact the future of communication. Designed to be the first in an annual series, the congress aims to strengthen collaboration between higher education institutions, encouraging the creation of partnership networks in communication teaching.

Aimed at teachers, researchers, doctoral, masters, postgraduate and undergraduate students in the field of Communication Sciences, as well as anyone interested in the topics covered, the Coimbra Communication Sciences Congress is a milestone in reflection on the intersection between technology and communication. It will be an essential space for discussing the future of communication in a digital world in constant transformation.
