Joan Ballantine has been a Professor of Accounting at the University of Ulster (UK ) since 2008, has a degree in accountancy and is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Ballantine has worked with Warwick Business School (where she completed a part-time PhD) and Queen's University Belfast. She has an extensive teaching experience and is an active researcher, with a particular interest in accounting education and gender equality (including gender budgeting and gender in senior management). With several published articles, she is also on the editorial board of several international journals, including the Journal of Accounting Education and Accounting Education.
The Professor holds two directorships and is Independent Adviser to the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Northern Ireland, Vice-President of the British Accounting & Finance Association (BAFA), Vice-President of the BAFA Accounting Education Special Interest Group and a member of the Education Committee of the European Accounting Association. She was recently awarded BAFA's Outstanding Contribution to Accounting & Finance Education Award for her ‘substantial and direct contribution to accounting and finance education in the UK throughout her career’.
