About the Event

The international webinar When ‘Places’ Educate: Hacking Accounting Education Through Spaces brings together experts from various universities to discuss the role of physical and contextual spaces in accounting education. The session takes place on May 19, starting at 1:00 PM (Lisbon time).

The panel features authors of the article of the same name, published in Accounting Forum (vol. 49, no. 1), including Charles H. Cho (Schulich School of Business, York University), David Derichs (Aalto University School of Business), Nicholas McGuigan (Monash University), Joan Ballantine (Ulster University), Alessandro Ghio (ESCP Europe), Louise Gorman (Trinity College Dublin), Blerita Korca (University of Bamberg), Alessandro Merendino (Queen Mary University of London), Erica Pimentel (Smith School of Business, Queen’s University), Destan Halit Akbulut (Galatasaray University), Sanjay Bissessur (University of Amsterdam), Ericka Costa (University of Trento), Marta De Almeida (Nova School of Business and Economics), Kertu Lääts (University of Tartu), Camelia Lungu (Bucharest University of Economic Studies), Radu Marian (Babeș-Bolyai University), Fabiola Schneider (University College Dublin), and Piotr Staszkiewicz (Warsaw School of Economics).

The article at the core of this session presents an innovative approach to accounting education, showing how “places” – as educational agents – shape teaching methods, learning outcomes, and educational experiences. Through six case studies, the authors demonstrate how spatial design and local context foster more meaningful, participatory, and interdisciplinary learning.

The session runs for approximately 1.5 hours and concludes with a screenshot, taken with participants’ consent, to mark the end of this moment of shared reflection.

Supported by CEOS.PP, the event is intended for students, lecturers, and researchers in the field of accounting.
