CEOS.PP organised, in partnership with ISCAP, the 12th edition of the European Conference on Social Media (ECSM), one of the most important international meetings dedicated to the study of social networks and their impact on contemporary society, which took place on 22 and 23 May.
The conference, hosted by ISCAP and attended in person and online, brought together experts from more than 26 countries, establishing itself as a scientific platform of excellence for sharing research, critical debate and building collaborative networks. The organisation of ECSM 2025 was the responsibility of CEOS.PP, which ensured the scientific and logistical coordination of the event, in line with its mission to promote applied and interdisciplinary research with social relevance.
The opening session featured speeches by Susana Pinto (Conference Chair), Luciana Oliveira (Programme Chair), Ana Azevedo (Director of CEOS.PP) and Manuel Moreira da Silva (President of ISCAP), underlining the Centre's commitment to creating spaces for scientific reflection on today's digital challenges.
Over the two days, ECSM 2025 promoted thematic panels on topics such as artificial intelligence and algorithms, disinformation and conspiracy theories, sustainability, storytelling, political influence, organisational communication strategies on social media, media literacy and civic participation. The programme also included scientific poster presentation sessions and a colloquium dedicated to master's and doctoral students, encouraging the involvement of young researchers and the dissemination of emerging knowledge.
By hosting and leading this international conference, CEOS.PP reinforces its role as an active agent in the critical analysis of digital phenomena, with a direct impact on research, advanced training and the development of communication, citizenship and inclusion strategies in a constantly changing digital ecosystem.
